Chapter One: The Season Opener: A Valentine’s Day Battle 🏐💥
They say romance is dead, but clearly, they weren’t in Ballynacargy this afternoon.
While the rest of the world was trading roses, our lads were trading shoulder-to-shoulder hits with St. Dominics of Roscommon. This wasn't just a friendly; it was the first time out for both squads, and you could feel the nervous energy in the air from the first whistle.
The Atmosphere
The weather was biting, but the sideline was buzzing. A massive turnout of supporters showed up to brave the February chill, proving once again that there is no community quite like ours. That roar from the ditch? That’s what fuels the "determination" (and keeps the blood pumping in sub-zero temps!).
The Performance
Both teams stepped onto the pitch with something to prove. It was GAA at its finest: played with pride, raw intensity, and the kind of grit you only see from men who have been itching to get back to championship standards. Between the hard yards put in during winter training and the clinical finishing on display, the result felt inevitable.
The Result
Does the final score matter in a challenge match? Usually, we’d say it’s all about the performance—but it feels a whole lot better when you walk off the pitch as winners!
Full Time Score:
Ballynacargy: 2-15
St. Dominics: 2-08
What’s Next?
The engine is started and the momentum is building. We’re back in action next weekend, so clear your schedules and keep your eyes glued to our socials for fixture details
Chapter Two: The Battle Lines are Drawn. 📖🏐
The first page of our season has already been turned. Chapter One was that gritty challenge game last Sunday—the first real run-out where the winter cobwebs were shaken off and the legs were tested. But now, the story truly begins.
Chapter Two takes us to the opening round of the ACFL Division 4, and it’s a heavy-hitter.
To some, it’s the dreaded return to the heavy ground; to others, it’s a cold winter’s day on the sideline, huddled into a parka and praying for the championship sun. We all dream of those warm June evenings, but the truth is, the ending of this story is written in the February mud.
After last week’s performance, the lads are ready. The engines are oiled, the boots are cleaned (for now), and the focus is locked in. The hare has been released, and while the tortoise might be giving chase, this isn't a fairy tale—we don't plan on being caught.
We return to Moynihan Park to face the powerhouse that is St Mary’s Rochfortbridge. This isn't our first battle with the ‘Bridge, and it won't be our last, but there is something special about the first league whistle of a new campaign.
The Details: Saturday, February 21st at 3:00 PM in Moynihan Park, Ballynacargy
Grab the heavy jackets, wrap the scarves twice, and come down to the sideline. The lads need that Ballynacargy roar to shake off the winter chill. The season is already shaping up to be a page-turner—make sure you’re there to witness chapter two.
